Gorgeous, funny and deep You hurt me With your desireFor other I amWho I am and IAm fond of myself.
I am not the biggest poetry fan, but this poem reads like a cryptic and twisted story An intriguing setup and interesting dynamic between the two characters.
I bought this book from a second hand store and it turned out to be the best 2 dollars I ever spent I love both the angel looking for a reckless, passionate love and the humble suburban man looking for a simpler woman to share his life with.
A book that s over as quick as it begins Always a shame when the illustrations make of an impact than the words they re meant to represent If anything i want to see of Borkowski than Levy after reading it Is A Shimmering, Tattooed, And Acerbic Angel, Flown From Paradise To Save Him From The Suburbs Of Hell He, An Accountant Worn Down By The Day To Day Struggles Of The Nine To Five, Is Dreaming Of A White Christmas, A Little Garden And Someone To Love She Attempts, With Scornful Wit, To Shock Him Out Of His Commuter S Habits And Into An Experience Of EcstasyMan Booker Prize Shortlisted Deborah Levy Whips Up A Storm Of Romance And Slapstick, Of Heavenly And Earthly Download Epub Format È An Amorous Discourse in the Suburbs of Hell PDF by Ø Deborah Levy Delights, In This Passionate Work Of Dramatic PoetryDeborah Levy Writes Fiction, Plays, And Poetry Her Work Has Been Staged By The Royal Shakespeare Company Her Most Recent Novel, Swimming Home And Other Stories, UK Publication, And Bloomsbury US Publication , Was Shortlisted For The Man Booker Prize, Specsavers National Book Awards UK Author Of The Year And Jewish Quarterly Wingate Prize, While Her Most Recent Collection Of Short Stories, Black Vodka Ten Stories, Was Shortlisted For The Frank O Connor International Short Story Award And Its Title Story Black Vodka Shortlisted For The BBC International Short Story Award An Amorous Discourse in the Suburbs of Hell Was First Published In In The United Kingdom And Appears Now In A New Edition, Its First US Edition

A funny, strange, dark and sensual quick read.
While not particularly revolutionary, this is an enjoyable and quick read with a few gut punches of lines sprinkled throughout.
An Amorous Discourse in the Suburbs of Hell ô Deborah Levy was shortlisted for the 2012 Man Booker Prize for her work Swimming Home her bleak work visiting depression, mental illness and broken relationships Her independently published work, Black Vodka a collection of ten short stories addressing the usual human fears as well as broken relationships.
Her latest publication An Amorous Discourse in the Suburbs of Hell is short, running to only 72 pages of poetry, and given some pages contain three lines of poetry, it is one you can easily read in a single sitting.
Containing two sections we have alternating poems by He , an unsure accountant, and She an angel sent to save him from the suburbs of hell.
For my full review go to Now make incense from my heart and liver i hear the breath of an octopus bigger than a car eggs in her arms calling for you and a wardrobe with mirrored doors undressing and dressing and cross dressing and overdressing and addressing envelopes I like the light to be just light and the dark to be just dark What an odd little book But delightful in its oddity nonetheless Levy s formatting strongly reminds me of the song of songs in the Bible with it s switching from He to She voices throughout the text But the visuals brought and overall tone of this work created something unique and oddly captivating.
